South Wales is Gwennol’s core region. We deliver bespoke commissioned support, 1:1 and 2:1 packages, placement stabilisation, family support, young people’s outreach, supported and supervised contact and community-based assessment for local authorities across the region.
Which areas does Gwennol cover in South Wales?
South Wales is our core operating region, spanning the local authority areas along the M4 corridor and the South Wales valleys. Because commissioned support depends on practitioner availability in a specific location, coverage for any individual package is confirmed at referral review rather than claimed in advance.
Who commissions Gwennol in South Wales?
Local authority children’s services, commissioning and brokerage teams. We also accept contact referral enquiries from solicitors and families where the arrangement is appropriate.
We do not publish blanket coverage claims. A provider that claims to cover everywhere usually means it will try to recruit somewhere. We would rather tell you at referral review whether we can genuinely staff a package in your area than accept work we cannot deliver.

Children’s services in Wales operate under a different framework from England, which affects how support is commissioned and what a provider may lawfully deliver.
What differs
- Regulatory framework. Regulated care and support services in Wales are governed by the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 and regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales, rather than by CQC.
- Workforce registration. Social Care Wales maintains the register for the social care workforce in Wales, and registration requirements differ by role.
- Welsh language. Provision under the Welsh language standards is a genuine consideration for some families and young people, and should be raised at referral where it matters.
- Geography. The region combines dense urban authorities along the M4 with valleys communities where travel time between locations can be substantial. This affects practitioner matching and mobilisation more than distance alone suggests.

Location affects a commissioned package more than most commissioners expect — not through mileage cost, but through who can realistically staff it with continuity.
